News at Easter 2020

Our food bank is OPEN. It distributes food as usual on Tuesdays, between midday and 1.30, from the United Church at 38 Stoke Road, Cobham KT11 3BD. We are also doing home deliveries for those who are unable to get out, especially during the Coronavirus emergency. Please follow the simple steps at https://cobhamarea.foodbank.org.uk/get-help/how-to-get-help/ if you need food, but do not have the money to pay for it.

Our demand has increased greatly as a result of the emergency, which has put many people out of work. Universal Credit and the government ‘furlough’ arrangements have not been sufficient to prevent a significant number of people from falling into food poverty. We are now distributing, to people living within a 3-mile radius of Cobham, over 1 tonne of food, toiletries and pet food every week.

Fortunately we are blessed with a hinterland of generous supporters, and so, although it is a constant struggle, we have been able to supply a nutritional package of food designed to last a week to all our clients.

People frequently ask what we need and where to drop it off. Please do look at https://cobhamarea.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/donate-food/, which is regularly updated and tells you everything you need to know.

Food can be dropped off at Waitrose, Sainsbury’s Local (not the big Sainsbury’s) and in the porch at St Andrew’s Church, Downside Bridge Rd, Cobham, and in the porch at at St Martin’s Church, East Horsley.

Please do not try to drop food off at the United Church, and please do not give us fresh or otherwise perishable foodstuffs, as we have no refrigerated storage.

If you are planning a joint collection by your road or workplace, please let us know in advance and we will provide crates, instruct you in packing, and then pick them up and take them to our warehouse in our van.
