Cobham Area Foodbank is calling on our supporters to download and use the BanktheFood app, a new tool that helps donors find out what items are most needed by their local food bank.
BanktheFood was first piloted in Southend food bank two years ago and now has nearly 35,000 users helping 350 registered food banks across the UK, from the Isle of Skye all the way down to Cornwall.
The app allows users to connect to their local food bank (ie: CobhamArea) and see the list of what is currently most urgently needed. Users can then tick off what they buy from the list on their phone, and the app will send the information to our food bank warehouse in real time. You can also see a list of local collection points and receive awards/points for donations!
Christina, the Manager of Cobham Area Foodbank, said: “We are very excited about this app and we hope it will make donating easier and more fun for our supporters. It will also help us to manage our stock more efficiently and ensure we have enough of the most needed items at all times.”
She added: “We are very grateful for all the donations we receive, but sometimes we get too much of one thing and not enough of another. With this app, you can see what essentials we need most before you go shopping and put it in your basket before you see the donation boxes after the checkout. You can also get a notification when you walk into Waitrose or any other supermarket where you shop.”
The app is free and easy to use, and can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play or via this QR code
Cobham Area Foodbank is encouraging our supporters to try it out and spread the word among friends and family. Let us know how you get on!
