Are you using the BanktheFood app?

4th April 2024

Cobham Area Foodbank is calling on our supporters to download and use the BanktheFood app, a new tool that helps donors find out what items are most needed by their local food bank.

Across the UK, food banks are at breaking point. The soaring cost of living is leaving people with no option but to turn to their local food bank – and the amount of help needed is outstripping donations. BanktheFood’s free app enables users to connect with their local food bank and receive a notification of its most-needed items. The app also sends a list of what’s urgently needed when the user arrives at their local supermarket, enabling shoppers to choose the items that will make the biggest difference in their local community and add them to their shop before they get to the checkout.

Users can then tick off what they buy from the list on their phone, and the app will send the information to our food bank warehouse in real time. You can also see a list of local collection points and receive awards/points for donations!

Christina, the Manager of Cobham Area Foodbank, said: “We are very excited about this app and we hope it will make donating easier and more fun for our supporters. It will also help us to manage our stock more efficiently and ensure we have enough of the most needed items at all times.”

She added: “We are very grateful for all the donations we receive, but sometimes we get too much of one thing and not enough of another. With this app, you can see what essentials we need most before you go shopping and put it in your basket before you see the donation boxes after the checkout. You can also get a notification when you walk into Waitrose or any other supermarket where you shop.”

Download the free BanktheFood app it’s is free, easy to use, and can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play or via this QR code:

Cobham Area Foodbank is encouraging our supporters to try it out and spread the word among friends and family.  Let us know how you get on!
