About our foodbank

Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area. Since we opened in December 2013, we have provided over 215 tonnes of emergency food.

Each client is given a week’s food for their whole family via a voucher system. The vouchers are issued by local agencies who can also provide long term support, if needed, to help address some of the issues behind a client’s crisis. The current list of agencies from whom clients can get a voucher can be found here: https://cobhamarea.foodbank.org.uk/get-help/foodbank-vouchers/

Over 90% of the food distributed by us is donated by the public. We have collection bins in all the local churches and Waitrose and Sainsbury’s Local. Further details can be found here: https://cobhamarea.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/donate-food/.

Donations are collected in our van and taken to the Foodbank warehouse at Brook Willow Farm, Leatherhead. There it is weighed and sorted by types and best-before dates.

Every Tuesday morning the van collects sufficient food for the week’s distribution, which takes place in the Foodbank’s ‘pop-up café’ at Cobham United Church, Stoke Road from midday to 1.30pm.

Sadly, demand is only increasing. In 2022 we gave 2,398 individuals a week’s emergency food supplies. 1,024 of that number, approximately 43%, were children.
